QuickBooks alternative
A QuickBooks alternative with inventory management built in
QuickBooks is excellent accounting software with a huge ecosystem. But if you sell products, you'll often find yourself moving up a plan for inventory, then adding a POS app and a payroll service around it. ERP Nexl puts inventory, POS, accounting and payroll in one system, so every sale — at the counter or on an invoice — updates stock and the books at once.

Which one fits your business?
Choose ERP Nexl if…
- You sell physical products and want stock, POS and accounting in one place
- You'd rather not stitch together QuickBooks, a POS app and a payroll service
- Your team is growing past the user limit of your QuickBooks plan
- You want payroll in the same system as attendance and leave
QuickBooks may suit you better if…
- You mainly sell services and don't hold stock
- Your accountant works in QuickBooks and you rely on its app marketplace
- You need country-specific tax filing or payroll features QuickBooks offers where you operate
- You only need bookkeeping, not inventory or a POS
Why product businesses leave QuickBooks
QuickBooks was built around the books, and for service businesses that's often all they need. Product businesses are different: every sale has to move stock, every purchase has to bring it in, and the counter needs a point of sale that feeds both. In QuickBooks those pieces come from higher-tier plans, add-ons and third-party apps, each with its own login, subscription and sync to keep an eye on.
Inventory is part of ERP Nexl's base plan, not a higher tier. You set up items with categories, packing labels, prices, tax and barcodes, and from then on stock is never typed in: it's worked out from each item's opening quantity and every sale, purchase, return, stock adjustment and production order, so every figure traces back to a document. An item ledger shows each movement with a running balance, the stock report shows what's on hand, the POS won't sell an item that has run out, and stock adjustments record shelf counts, damage and losses with a reason.
ERP Nexl starts from the transaction instead. A sale at the POS or on an invoice reduces stock, updates the customer's balance and — with the accounting module — posts to a proper double-entry ledger with bank reconciliation, cost centres and financial statements. Purchases and returns do the same in reverse, and HR & payroll sit in the same system when you need them.
If your business is mostly services and your accountant lives in QuickBooks, it may still be the right tool. If you sell products and are tired of making several systems agree, one connected system is simpler.
Leaving QuickBooks doesn't mean losing your history. Pick a clean start date — the first day of a month or financial year — and keep your QuickBooks records for the years before it. On that date, count your stock and enter each item with the quantity on the shelf, then add your customers and suppliers with the balances your last QuickBooks reports show. With the Accounting module, enter opening balances for your bank accounts and the rest of the ledger as of the same date. From then on, every sale, purchase and payment is recorded in ERP Nexl, and stock, balances and the books build up from there.
The main kinds of QuickBooks alternatives
QuickBooks alternatives fall into a few groups. Whether you mainly sell services or products, and where you sell them, decides which group fits before you compare individual products.
Other cloud accounting software
Accounting-first online products like QuickBooks, often with inventory, point of sale and payroll as upgrades or separate apps. The right group if you mainly sell services.
Desktop accounting and inventory software
Installed on your own computers, often with local tax compliance built in; working away from the office needs a remote-access setup.

Frequently asked questions
Is ERP Nexl a good alternative to QuickBooks?
For businesses that sell products, yes. ERP Nexl combines inventory, a built-in POS, sales, purchasing, double-entry accounting and optional HR & payroll and production in one system, instead of accounting plus add-ons.
How do I switch from QuickBooks to ERP Nexl?
Choose a start date, such as the first of next month. As of that date, enter your items with the stock you count, your customers and suppliers with what they owe or are owed, and — with the Accounting module — the opening balances of your bank accounts and ledger. Then record new sales, purchases and payments in ERP Nexl, and keep your QuickBooks records for the years before. The free trial lets you set up your items, parties and team roles before you switch.
Can I import my data from QuickBooks?
Not automatically: ERP Nexl doesn't have an import tool for QuickBooks files or spreadsheets yet. You enter your items, customers, suppliers and opening balances once, as of your start date. Most businesses start with the items and parties they trade with most and add the rest as they come up.
What are the main types of QuickBooks alternatives?
Broadly five: other cloud accounting software, often with inventory and payroll as upgrades or separate apps; desktop accounting and inventory software you install yourself; online inventory and order-management tools that connect to a separate accounting app; all-in-one ERP suites; and focused cloud ERPs for product businesses, such as ERP Nexl, with stock, POS, accounts and payroll ready-made and connected.
Does QuickBooks include inventory and a POS?
At the time of writing, inventory tracking is only on QuickBooks Online's Plus and Advanced plans, and there is no built-in POS — Intuit discontinued QuickBooks Desktop Point of Sale in 2023, so businesses connect third-party POS apps instead.
Can ERP Nexl replace QuickBooks for inventory management?
For a single-location product business, yes: stock moves with every sale, purchase, return, stock adjustment and production order, with an item ledger and a stock report, and it's included in the base plan. Know what it doesn't do yet: it keeps one stock figure per item (no separate warehouses), has no low-stock alerts or reorder levels, scans barcodes at the POS only, and doesn't convert between packings such as cartons and pieces.
Does ERP Nexl limit the number of users?
No. Every ERP Nexl plan includes unlimited team members, and roles and permissions control what each person can do.
Does ERP Nexl do proper double-entry accounting?
Yes. The accounting module includes a chart of accounts, journals, bank reconciliation, cost centres, a tax report, and trial balance, profit & loss and balance sheet reports.
Can I try ERP Nexl before switching?
Yes. Start a free trial with no credit card and set up your company in minutes.
